Holbrook, Arizona
Wigwam Motel
What it is
Concrete tepee cabins from 1950 where you still sleep inside a wigwam with vintage cars parked outside.
Why it matters
One of the last of its kind and one of the most photographed nights on the road.
What we experienced
We started the day in Holbrook, far enough into the run that I honestly could not tell you what day it was. The Wigwam was a stop we had to make — the whole row of concrete tepees looked fully booked, and the cars and trucks parked around them belonged there as much as the buildings did. We walked it, took it in, and pointed west toward Winslow.
