Winslow, Arizona
Standin' on the Corner Park
What it is
The corner in Winslow, Arizona made famous by the Eagles — statue, mural, flatbed Ford and all.
Why it matters
A song lyric turned town landmark; proof of how deep the road runs in American culture.
What we experienced
I have had that Eagles song in my ears my whole life, so standing on the actual corner was the stop I was looking forward to most. The flatbed Ford is parked right there, red, exactly where the song puts it. We lined the trucks up along the street for a photo the way the block would have looked back then, and there is an original 1955 Texaco station downtown that nobody had warned me about. It was every bit as good as I had built it up to be.
