Seligman, Arizona
Seligman, Arizona
What it is
The birthplace of the Route 66 preservation movement, sparked by barber Angel Delgadillo after the interstate bypass.
Why it matters
Without Seligman there is no historic Route 66 to drive — this is where saving the road began.
What we experienced
The first thing I said getting out of the truck was "we are in Radiator Springs" — then I corrected myself, because we were in Seligman, Arizona, and it only feels like the movie. There is a Radiator Springs mural right across the street and characters set out around the place, a Tow Mater among them. You can usually read a town by the sign on the way in and know how the rest of it will go; Seligman's told the truth.
