Privacy Policy

Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly when you sign up for updates, send a contact inquiry, or submit interest in the next run, including:
- Name and email address
- The details you choose to share in a contact or 2027-interest submission (for example a company name, a truck description, or a suggested Route 66 stop)
- Email addresses collected through newsletter signup forms
The 2026 run's application and registration system has been decommissioned. Applicant records (including vehicle details and submitted photos) and payment records are being exported to a secure offline archive and removed from this website's live systems as part of that decommissioning.
We also collect certain usage data automatically when you visit our website, including pages viewed, time spent, referring URLs, browser type, and general geographic location (city/region level). This data is collected via analytics software and does not identify you personally.
How We Use Your Information
The information we collect is used solely for the following purposes:
- Responding to contact inquiries about sponsorship, media, and licensing
- Following up on interest submissions for the next run (drivers, sponsors, and stop suggestions)
- Sending newsletter communications to subscribers who have opted in (you may unsubscribe at any time)
- Improving the functionality and content of our website based on aggregate usage patterns
We will not use your information for purposes beyond those listed above without first obtaining your explicit consent.
Information Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We share data only with the following service providers, and only to the extent necessary to operate the event:
- Convex — for secure storage of newsletter subscriptions, contact inquiries, and 2027-interest submissions.
- Resend — for delivering the emails you ask us to send (newsletter and notifications).
- Privacy-light analytics — aggregated, cookie-free website analytics (Plausible-class) so we can understand traffic without identifying you.
All third-party service providers are contractually bound to handle your data in accordance with applicable privacy laws and are prohibited from using your information for any purpose other than providing services to us.
Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. All data is encrypted both at rest and in transit using industry-standard protocols (TLS 1.2+).
This website does not collect or process payments. The 2026 registration payment system has been decommissioned and its provider credentials are being retired as part of the same wind-down.
Your Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
- Right to Know — You may request a copy of the personal information we have collected about you, including its categories, sources, and purposes.
- Right to Delete — You may request deletion of personal information we hold about you, subject to certain legal exceptions.
- Right to Opt-Out — You have the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at hello@themotherroadrun.com. We will respond to verified requests within 45 days.
Cookies & Analytics
We use privacy-light, cookie-free analytics (Plausible-class) to understand how visitors interact with our website: page views, referrers, and navigation paths, aggregated and anonymous.
We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or behavioral retargeting technologies. We do not participate in cross-site tracking networks.
Because this analytics approach sets no cookies and stores no personal identifiers, there is nothing to opt out of at the browser level.
Data Retention
We retain personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected:
- 2026 applicant and registration records are being removed from live systems; a founder-held offline archive is retained only as long as required for tax, accounting, and legal compliance.
- Contact inquiries and 2027-interest submissions are retained while the inquiry or the next-run planning is active, then deleted.
- Newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe. Each future newsletter campaign will include unsubscribe instructions, and you may also request removal directly at /unsubscribe.
- Anonymized analytics data may be retained indefinitely as it cannot be traced back to an individual.
