Where every Mother Road story ends. Ours did too.
What we experienced
The last stretch was the strangest part of the whole run. I had been planning this for eight months, and coming down Santa Monica Boulevard I got nervous, because the moment I reached the beach it was finished. Then the Pacific was just there at the end of the street, a 66 sign on a hot dog stand, the pier ahead of us. You can talk about driving Route 66 or you can go and do it — past tense now.
