A museum curating restored muffler men and fiberglass giants — oversized pieces of roadside Americana gathered in one place.
Why it matters
The giants gave Route 66 its outsized character; this collection preserves the craft behind them.
What we experienced
We rolled into Atlanta, Illinois and parked right out front, which lasted about a minute — the police came over to say we could take our picture and then move along. So we moved the trucks to the lot we were allowed in and walked the place properly. The museum turned out to be only the first stop of the morning; the downtown around it kept us there a good while longer.
